Well the results have come in so it's time to launch into part two of the unit.
Assignment two is now up and running and in order to complete it I must first download various software applications, and and learn how to use and incorporate them into the assignment.
Frist cab off the rank is End Note. This is a referencing program that is available to me as a student at Murdoch via the library website. To get the file only a few simple steps are required. Firstly get onto the library site and click on the "Getting Help" link on the right hand side of the page. You will then be directed to a new page where you will be able to open the Endnote link. It's third from the bottom.
After opening the Endnote access area, simply click on the" Request software on line " link, agree to the licencing agreement and follow the download prompts as directed.
It should be noted that in order to successfully complete the download to your computer, you must copy both the licencing file and the data file directly onto your computers desk top.
End note is proving to be an excellent tool for correctly referencing any books, articles or web sites that I may use in order to complete assignments during my degree. All I have to do now is work out how to use it correctly and build my own reference libaray.
The second and probably the most important part of the assignment, is learning how to create a screencast video describing to my colleges how to access the information that I need for this section. In my case I need to find a journal article concerned with the use of technology in teaching english. Finding a journal is not that difficult as it's possible to once again head to the Murdoch library home page and simply type "english learning technology", or any other search words that you may want to find, into the "Find It" Search engine. This will then take you to the results page were everything concerning your serch that is in the library data base will be displayed. Simply refine your research parameters using the options on the left of the page page to only display the results that your interested in. In my case, journals.
It is now possible to insert the reference of my chosen journal into the Endnote program.
Finally it is necessary to download a screen capturing program and I have chosen Jing as my preferred option. Jing is exceptional easy to use and takes only minutes to download. After completion of downloading a new icon in the image of a "Sun" will appear at the top of your desktop
and conveniently be accessible no mater what web page you have open at any time. Jing gives you the ability to capture your whole screen or any part of the screen that you wish and save it as a static screen shot or create a screencast by giving you the option of a five minute video. The screen cast option also gives you the ability to open any other page or program you like on your screen and include them in your presentation.
This nifty program is highly recommended by me but you will make better use of it if you take a few minutes to have a look at the short tutorial videos on the Jing site.
Catch you later.
